Dr. Shravan Kumar Singh is a Professor of Genetics & Plant Breeding since Nov., 2006 at Department of Genetics & Plant Breeding, Institute of Agricultural Science, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. He is also the National Vice President, Indian Society of Genetics and Plant Breeding, New Delhi from January, 2020 for 2 years term.
Prior to the current position he worked as a Senior Scientist-cum-Associate Professor and Junior Scientist-Cum- Assistant Professor in the Department of Plant Breeding & Genetics, B.A.U., Ranchi ( from 25th April 1990 to 13th Nov., 2006). During the period at B.A.U., Ranchi, I went on lien for one year in foreign assignment as Lecturer Plant Improvement at Higher Institute of Agriculture & Live Stock, Kigali, Rwanda, Africa.( from July 1999 to July2000).
At present he is handling 2 International and 1 DBT Projects as Principal Investigator. He released 2 Rice varieties “B.V.D. 109 and B.V.D. 110” as a Co-Breeder at B.A.U. Ranchi which have been Notified by the Govt. Of India in 2005. Released 1 Mustard variety “Shivani” as a Main Breeder at B.A.U. Ranchi which has been notified by the Govt. of India in 2005 and very popular in Jharkhand. Released 1 Niger variety “Birsa niger-2” as a Co-Breeder at B.A.U. Ranchi which has been notified by the Govt. of India in 2004. In the history of B.H.U., he has developed 1st Hybrid rice (HURHS-17-1). With the help of his ad-hoc projects at B.H.U., he has developed a molecular drought breeding laboratory in the Department of Genetics & Plant Breeding which is helping M.Sc. / Ph.D. and experiential learning students for their training and thesis research.
He has published 112 Papers (Research Paper in national and international peer reviewed Journals: 67, Popular articles: 07, Bulletins: 12, Book chapters: 01; Full length papers in Symposia/ Conferences: 04 ; Research Abstracts: 21). He Guided / Co-Guided Ph.D. (7) and M.Sc. (29) students and currently guiding Ph.D. (5) and M.Sc. (6) students.
