National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD)

National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) is an apex development finance institution fully owned by the Government of India. The bank has been entrusted with “matters concerning policy, planning, and operations in the field of credit for agriculture and other economic activities in rural areas in India”. NABARD has been instrumental in grounding rural, social innovations and social enterprises in the rural hinterlands. National Medicinal Plant Board (NMPB)

In order to promote medicinal plants sector, the Government of India has set up National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) on 24th November 2000. Currently the board is located in Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha & Homoeopathy), Government of India. The primary mandate of NMPB is to develop an appropriate mechanism for coordination between various ministries/ departments/ organizations in India and implements support policies/programs for overall (conservation, cultivation, trade and export) growth of medicinal plants sector both at the Central /State and International level.

ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI)

ICAR – CTCRI, is a constituent institute under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is the only research organization in the world dedicated solely to research on tropical tuber crops. The Institute established in 1963 with its headquarters at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The Institute has a regional centre at Bhubaneswar, Orissa established in 1976 to cater for the needs of Eastern India. It also functions as a Phytosanitary Centre for the screening of germplasm received from abroad. At present 13 Institutional and 9 externally aided projects dealing with the vital issues related to improvement, production, protection and utilization of tropical tuber crops and also to fulfil the socio-economic commitments of the farming community are in operation at the Regional Centre.

Tea Board of India

The Tea Board of India is a state agency of the Government of India established to promote the cultivation, processing, and domestic trade as well as export of tea from India. It was established by the enactment of the Tea Act in 1953 with its headquarters in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta). It is headed by the Deputy Chairman and separated into Standing Committees referred to as the Executive Committee, the Development Committee, the Labour Welfare Committee and the Export Promotion Committee. The Tea Board India is responsible for the assignment of certification numbers to exports of certain tea merchants. This certification is intended to ensure the teas’ origin, which in turn would reduce the amount of fraudulent labeling on rare teas such as ones harvested in Darjeeling.

Odisha State Warehousing Corporation (OSWC)

The Odisha State Warehousing Corporation (OSWC) was set up in 1958 under the Agricultural Produce (Development and Warehousing) Corporations Act, 1956 which was a Central Act. The Corporation was subsequently brought under the purview of the Warehousing Corporations Act, 1962 – also a Central Act – by virtue of which the earlier Act was repealed. The Warehousing Corporations Act, 1962 lays down the following functions for a State Warehousing Corporation. 

Mission: To become the preferred and dependable agency that can meet the warehousing needs to various sectors of the State economy by adopting state-of-the-art storage and logistic technology.

National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED)

National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd.(NAFED) was established on the auspicious day of Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October 1958. Nafed is registered under the Multi State Co-operative Societies Act. Nafed was setup with the object to promote Co-operative marketing of agricultural produce to benefit the farmers. Agricultural farmers are the main members of Nafed, who have the authority to say in the form of members of the General Body in the working of Nafed. The objectives of the NAFED shall be to organize, promote and develop marketing, processing and storage of agricultural, horticultural and forest produce, distribution of agricultural machinery, implements and other inputs, undertake inter-state, import and export trade, wholesale or retail as the case may be and to act and assist for technical advice in agricultural, production for the promotion and the working of its members, partners, associates and cooperative marketing, processing and supply societies in India.

Coconut Development Board (CDB)

Coconut Development Board (CDB)  is a statutory body established by the Government of India for the integrated development of coconut production and utilization in the country with a focus on productivity increase and product diversification. The Board which came into existence on 12th January 1981, functions under the administrative control of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, with its Headquarters at Kochi in Kerala and Regional Offices at Bangalore in Karnataka, Chennai in Tamil Nadu, Guwahati in Assam and Patna in Bihar. There are five State Centres situated at Pitapally in Odissa, Kolkata in West Bengal, Thane in Maharashtra, Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh and Port Blair in the Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The Board has 12 Demonstration cum Seed Production (DSP) Farms in different locations of the country and now 10 farms are maintained.

The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) was established by the Government of India on February 3rd 1947 under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and later it joined the ICAR family in 1967. Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA) is one of the research institutes under Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi to serve as the nodal agency for catering to the needs of the brackishwater aquaculture research in India.
